A piano contains thousands of individual components working together every time a key is played. With regular use and time, parts within the keyboard and action can gradually shift, compress or wear, resulting in an uneven or less responsive playing experience.

Piano regulation involves the precise adjustment of the piano's keyboard and action mechanisms to help restore consistency, responsiveness and control.

How often should piano regulation be done?

As a general maintenance guideline, we recommend having your piano's regulation assessed and, where required, carried out approximately every 4–5 years.

The actual frequency will depend on how often the piano is played, its age, condition and the amount of wear within the action.

Piano regulation may address:

• Uneven or inconsistent key response
• Differences in key touch and feel
• Sluggish or poorly responding keys
• Inconsistent hammer movement
• Action irregularities
• Pedal and action adjustments
• Overall keyboard and action responsiveness
